How fingerprint registration technology helps student attendance

High school isn't just a place for learning the fundamentals of standard education anymore. At Wallace High School in Northern Ireland, students are also learning to take responsibility for their own attendance.

We are proud to announce that Wallace High School in Northern Ireland is now using Synel's fingerprint registration technology, EduReg, for student attendance registration. This software has now been tested and verified by C2K and Northgate, the bodies that evaluate and authorise all software going into the education system in Northern Ireland, for use in school across the country.

Thanks to Synel's EduReg, every day scores of pupils register to class independently with fingerprint verification technology. Using this technology not only guarantees that the student who registered is truly the student in the class, it also encourages students to value and take responsibility for own attendance.  Students at Wallace High School actually look forward to their futuristic finger scan during electronic registration, making skipping class a thing of the past.

According to Wallace High School, Alastair Craig, the school “sought to streamline one aspect of morning registration of pupils by introducing biometric registration, that is, registration by fingerprint,” in order to make the school run more efficiently.

With the new technology from Synel, teachers no longer need to count each pupil for student registration. Instead, they are granted with extra time for lessons. All Year 14 students register themselves in their social area and all students who arrive after normal registration also 'clock in' in this way. The information that is captured via the 'Student Registration Software' is then exported to the school's main SIMS system, providing accurate data and information for all student records.

The introduction of Synel’s EduReg has been very successful. “We have been delighted how quickly our students have adapted to the new arrangements and its introduction has without doubt improved the morning routine for both staff and pupils involved, " says Craig.

The new system has been popular with pupils, teachers and parents alike. Julie Dumigan, Vice Chair of the Wallace Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) says, "The PTA is delighted to fund biometric registration and is very proud to help The Wallace High School continue to be at the cutting edge in this digital era."

Synel UK is honoured to have made this milestone contribution to education, responsibility, and student data security. EduReg has now been introduced to education establishments in the UK, Ireland, France, Ghana and Cameroon. Daniel Ferber, Managing Director of Synel UK and France says, “Now, more than 100,000 students use the Synel registration systems every day.”
