High school isn't just a place for learning the fundamentals of standard education anymore.

At Wallace High School, students are also learning self-responsibility and attendance.

With today's advancements in our class rooms, from the black-board to the laptop, technology has an influence on today's most modern educational facilities. Synel supports the advancement and progression of the modern times and is looking out for the generations to come.

Synel UK is proud to announce that Wallace High School is now using Synel's fingerprint registration solution. In addition, the software has been tested and verified by C2K and Northgate for use in Northern Ireland Schools.

Thanks to Synel's EduReg, every day, scores of pupils independently register to class by using fingerprint verification technology which guarantees the student who registered is truly the student in the class. Students actually look forward to their futuristic finger scan that skipping class has become a sign of the past.

Vice Principal of Wallace, Alastair Craig, said:

"We have sought to streamline one aspect of morning registration of pupils by introducing biometric registration, that is, registration by fingerprint. In doing so, we have followed the 'Becta guidance' on biometric technologies in schools. Consequently students or parents not wishing to register in this way are issued with a unique code for that purpose."

Teachers no longer need to count each pupil for the roll call, instead, they're granted with extra time for the lesson. This new solution encourages students to take responsibility for their own personal attendance. Students can quickly and easily register their attendance upon arrival to class, making truancy virtually unfashionable.

Craig continued:

"All of our Year 14 students now register by this means in their social area and all students who arrive after normal registration also 'clock in' in this way. We have been delighted how quickly our students have adapted to the new arrangements and its introduction has without doubt improved the morning routine for both staff and pupils involved. We have greatly appreciated the significant contribution made to the funding of this initiative by the PTA."

All attendance information that is captured via the 'Student Registration Software' is then exported to the school's main SIMS system, providing accurate data and information for the all the students' records.

Julie Dumigan, Vice Chair of the Wallace PTA, said:

"The PTA is delighted to fund biometric registration and is very proud to help The Wallace High School continue to be at the cutting edge in this digital era."

Ireland has nationally approved the official integration of Synel Industries' EduReg system.

Synel Industries UK is honored and obliged for its milestone contribution to education, responsibility, and student data security.
